With its church perched on a rock like a lookout post, Ilhat, at an altitude of 550m, seems to watch over the Douctouyre valley and offers a distant view of the crest of the Tabe massif.
The village is bordered on either side by the limestone cliffs of the Plantaurel, the reverse side of Cuesta, which protect it from the wind and provide a pleasantly warm climate all year round.
